Sunday, 11 July 2021 – Ueno and Shibuya

Good evening from Tokyo, where the second time Semi-emergency Spread Prevention Measures have been applied.
Day 21, the last day.

From tomorrow, 12 July, Tokyo will be under the 4th state of emergency. It means that Tokyo will be under declaration of emergency for the whole of the Olympics. Although about the declaration of it for the period of the Paralympics is still to be decided, I think the state of emergency will be extended until after the closing ceremony of the Paralympics on 5 September.

I went to the Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai) in Ueno yesterday to listen to a concert. I post here yesterday’s photos of Ueno station, Ueno Park and Shibuya. In Ueno, there are many museums and art museums. There is also the extremely popular Ueno Zoo. Back in the before Colona pandemic, huge crowds would gather there at weekends. It was also a very popular tourist spot with many foreign visitors. Now it’s all gone and quiet. I know what it used to be like, it’s an incredibly empty another world. I like it better, but it’s just killing the Japanese economy. The Olympic banner fluttering under the blue sky in front of Ueno station, felt dreary and in vain.
