Friday, 5 March 2021 – The Japanese Government announced a 2-week extension of the state of emergency for the Tokyo Metropolitan area
Good evening from Tokyo under the state of emergency.
Day 57.
As scheduled, tonight, the Japanese Government announced a 2-week extension of the state of emergency for the Tokyo Metropolitan area, which means the 4 prefectures of Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama and Chiba. The media had been reporting it for days as something that had almost been decided, so people took this announcement with a cool and calm attitude. The new scheduled date of lifting is 21 March.
Just after lifting of the state of emergency, the Government plans to start the Olympic torch relay on 25 March. I think that the torch relay will bring back the spread of the Corona infection. Now, a lot of Japanese people really don’t want the Olympics. We have bigger things to worry about, money, next meal, jobs, our lives, the future.
Today, Moderna has made an application for approval to the Japanese Government for the Corona vaccine to be available in Japan. This follows on from application by Pfizer and AstraZeneca. Pfizer’s vaccination has already started in Japan, although most people will not be able to get the vaccine before the Olympics. Even the vaccine for the elderly, who are the priority group, will expect to be in short supply in this year.
Have a nice dream. Good night.
Wear a mask and wash your hands.
Stay safe and healthy ππ·πππππ
