Friday, 23 April 2021 – Japanese Govt decided to declare for the 3rd time state of emergency in Tokyo and 3 other prefectures
Good evening from Tokyo, where the Semi-emergency Spread Prevention Measures have been applied.
Day 12.
This evening, the Japanese Government decided to declare for the third time state of emergency in Tokyo, Osaka, Hyogo and Kyoto. The duration of the emergency is from 25 April to 11 May, the holiday season in Japan. Now, in Japan, a variant virus type N501Y is spreading rapidly. This variant type has more infectious capacity and makes infected people more severe condition. So, depending on the spreading situation of this variant type, the duration of emergency is possibly extended.
During the second state of emergency, concerts and events were still available. This time the Government is requesting that concerts and events are either cancelled or held with no audiences. Today the cancellations of the several orchestra concerts have already been announcements. There will be a barrage of cancellations announcements over the weekend and early next week.
