Wednesday, 12 May 2021 – The petals of cherry blossoms
Good evening from Tokyo under the third time state of emergency.
Day 18.
I read many confusing stories about the vaccination programme on the news today. Everything that many people (including me) predicted on Twitter last year has come true. The predictions that there would be more crazy situations than we predicted have also come true. I have a really bad feeling.
Japan is one of the countries with the highest number of the elderly people in the world, the percentage of the population aged over 65 is the highest in the world at over 28%. It has become clear that the vaccination of these 36 million elderly cannot be completed by the end of July, which was promised by the PM. Some local authorities are saying they are not sure if it will be done by mid-September. If the elderly do not get the vaccination done, the younger generation will never get it.
So, today’s my conclusion is the same as always. We cannot host the Olympics in this summer in such a situation. The Olympics should be canceled.
Today’s photos are the petals of cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms are beautiful when they are in bloom, and they are also beautiful when they are falling. People love the petals after they have fallen. In Japanese language, there are some elegant words to describe the fallen petals.
Have a good dream. Good night.
Wear a mask and wash your hands.
Stay safe and healthy ππ·πππππ
