Kazuyoshi Akiyama, 84, is one of Japan’s leading classical music conductors. He was seriously injured in a fall at his home on New Year’s Day. Today his family and his manager, Mr Hirasa, announced his retirement. A statement from Maestro Akiyama’s family is available on the Hirasa Office (M.Hirasa Ltd.) website.

I’ve listened to Maestro Akiyama’s concerts many times. The most memorable was the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra concert at Suntory Hall. Martha Argerich played Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 splendidly.
It was really amazing.
