Tuesday, 8 June 2021 – 3. It was almost summer today
Good evening from Tokyo under the third time state of emergency.
Day 45.
It was almost summer today. In Tokyo the highest temperature was over 30 °C (86 °F). In Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, which is located between Tokyo and Osaka, it reached 34.3 °C (93.7 °F). The Meteorological Agency’s observation equipment is set up in a well-ventilated place and is not exposed to direct sunlight. So, people who were in the sun or in indoor areas with bad ventilation felt that probably much hotter than Meteorological Agency’s announcement.
The temperature in my study has been high since this morning, and it’s still 29 °C at midnight. The windows are open, so I don’t feel the heat. It’s cool and comfortable. The humidity is 47%, miraculously low for this time of year in Tokyo, and I think that is the reason for the comfort. The Meteorological Agency has not yet announced that Tokyo has entered the rainy season. The weather forecast for tomorrow is quite hot all over Japan. The sudden heat can cause heatstroke for people who are not used to the summer heat, especially the elderly.
Today is the 211th birthday of my dearest composer Robert Schumann. I listened to Schumann’s music on CDs performed by my favourite pianist Radu Lupu. Well, though, I listen to Schumann every day.
People who received at least one shot of the vaccine in Japan
